What Pre-departure Orientation for students and their parents

WHO: Local students who will go abroad on an AFS program and their parents. This orientation will also include former participants and current exchange students.

WHY: This orientation will provide students and parents with the information needed to ensure a successful, safe, and rewarding AFS experience. It will also help students prepare themselves to navigate the experience of moving “across cultures.”

HOW: Students and parents will participate in a variety of cultural exercises in small and large groups.

Registration begins at 12:00 PM.

Chevy Chase Community Center
5601 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20015 (Connecticut Avenue & McKinley Street)

Directions From the Beltway: Exit at Connecticut Avenue, south towards Chevy Chase. Continue past East-West Highway. Travel around Chevy Chase Circle and enter DC. The Chevy Chase Community Center is two blocks south of Chevy Chase Circle on the left adjacent to the public library. The Avalon movie theater is across the street.

Parking is available in the lot behind the building and on neighboring streets. The closest Metro stations are Friendship Heights (about a mile west on Western Avenue) and Van Ness (about two miles south on Connecticut Avenue).
