6/24/2009 - 5 Great Reasons to Study Abroad in the Spring
AFS offers many programs departing Spring 2010 guaranteed to deliver an intercultural experience of a lifetime. Read our top 5 Reasons why studying abroad in the Spring rocks, then check out the Spring 2010 available programs :
1. Scholarships are available. For programs departing Spring 2010, the first awards will be given out over the summer, so visit our website in June to begin your scholarship application. Need-based awards are substantially larger when you apply 6-8 months before programs depart.
2. Now’s your chance. Certain programs, such as the Year Program to Japan and the Semester Program to Italy, only depart in the Spring. Also, semester programs to Portugal, Ghana, Russia and South Africa, are limited to Spring departures. Now’s your chance to apply for these programs.
3. Get off on the right foot. Certain programs are offered during spring departures to match the school system of the host country. New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Costa Rica start their school year in early spring. In France, Italy and Portugal, the new term begins in the spring. Choosing the spring departure means that you’ll start school at the same time as your new classmates.
4. Enjoy summer twice! Head south to experience Latin America for a semester during their summer. Then, come home to summer vacation in the U.S. And work on your Spanish or soccer skills, while you’re at it.
5. There’s time to cover the costs. Because you are applying early, you’ve got time to plan how to raise money for your AFS tuition. Join an AFS Fundraising Workshop or visit the AFS Fundraising Wiki.
